A little boy and his pet dragon are the very best of friends. They laugh, they sing, they dance, they snooze. They are both amazing - just like everyone else!
A celebration of friendship and being yourself with a positive message about celebrating diversity. The perfect platform to start conversations about the importance of understanding and acceptance.
Steve Antony is the winner of the Oscar's First Book Prize and has been nominated for the Kate Greenaway Medal and shortlisted for the Waterstones Children's Book Prize.

I liked reading Amazing because it showed a boy who uses a wheelchair having fun with his pet dragon. I wasn’t shocked by his wheelchair, I was shocked that he has a pet dragon, which, by the way, had the cutest face! Amazing showed that it doesn’t matter that the boy needed a wheelchair, he could still join in with his friends and have a lot of fun. I liked how happy the boy looked in the pictures, my favourite part was when the boy was playing basketball and something happened to the ball! Whoops!
I had to have a lot of speech therapy when I was younger because I didn’t speak in the same way as my friends. That’s a bit like the boy in Amazing, I was ‘different’ too. I didn’t let the way I spoke stop me from having fun and I’m glad the boy didn’t too.
There weren’t many words in Amazing so it didn’t take me very long to read it but I still enjoyed it. I liked looking at the pictures and seeing what the boy and his dragon were getting up to.

I like that this book is showing the boy in a wheelchair because I can’t think of any other books that have characters like that. I also like that the book is showing the boy having lots of fun. The pictures in this book are really good and I wish that I could draw like that! My favourite part is where the boy and the dragon are playing hide and seek and basketball. The dragon is so good at hide and seek!
Our Silly Q&A With Steve Antony!
Would you rather eat Brussels sprouts forever, or broccoli?
Neither! Can I not have chocolate instead, please?
What animal would you like to be and why?
An Octopus, so I can do eight things at once.
Would you rather live in the North Pole or the desert?
The desert! I used to live in the New Mexican desert as a child, and I loved it.
How many hops can you do in one minute?
Do you like to read the book or watch the film?
Reading the book first is always better, because when you then watch the film you feel like you already know the characters.
If you could fly on a dragon’s back to anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Anywhere and everywhere, including the moon!
Do you have any pets?
We have a cat, Coco. She likes to sleep on my lap while I work.
Do you have a ‘party trick’? Our mum can lick her right elbow (but not her left one!)
I’ve got a pretty good disappearing act.
What’s the best book you’ve ever, ever read?
As a child I loved The Hobbit, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. I’m a big fan of graphic novels and comic books, too. And one of my favourite picture books is Mr Wuffles, by David Wiesner. Sorry, that’s more than one!
