Elliot's mum is ill and his home is under threat, but a shooting star crashes to earth and changes his life forever. The star is Virgo - a young Zodiac goddess on a mission. But the pair accidentally release Thanatos, a wicked death daemon imprisoned beneath Stonehenge, and must then turn to the old Olympian gods for help. After centuries of cushy retirement on earth, are Zeus and his crew up to the task of saving the world - and solving Elliot's problems too?

Most of the time, this book was absolutely hilarious. I loved the gods and how absolutely crazy they all were. They were just so silly and so funny. My mum kept asking me how the book was going because she kept hearing me laughing out loud. In the end she just decided to read it for herself and she LOVED IT! She kept laughing out loud too! And then she went around saying “BOOM!” I think Hermes might have been her favourite character! Mine was Elliott because he was pretty brave to say he was just an ordinary kid. I think me and my mum are going to have to battle it out to see who gets to read Simply The Quest first. If we make it a maths battle I’ll definitely win!

The book did have some sad parts too, like Elliott’s mum being poorly. It was hard to read those parts because I felt so sad for Elliott, especially since it was just him and his mum at home and he was too scared to let anyone know she was ill. I felt sorry for Elliott because he had to worry about everything on his own. I liked that the gods worked out that things weren’t right and tried their best to help him. I hated Mrs Porshley-Plum, she was a psycho!

If you like funny books then you’ll definitely like this one. If you like adventure stories, you’ll like it as well. You’ll probably like it even if you don’t like reading very much, it’s just that good!

And now I just need to wait until 3rd August for Simply The Quest. Is it weird that I’ve even put a countdown timer on the blog? Have a look over there on the right if you don’t believe me! One good thing about waiting is that by the time it’s published I’ll have finished Year 6!

Win a copy of Who Let The Gods Out?

Since me and my mum both loved this book so much, my mum decided that it would be nice to give someone else a chance to read it. We’re giving away a brand new paperback copy, you just have to live in the UK to win it. Leave a comment and tell us who your favourite Greek god is, if you have one. If you don’t, just tell us a really good children’s book that you’ve read recently. Me and my mum will pick a winner on 11th June (because we’ll be away on holiday until  then!) Good luck!

  1. I really liked Poseidon because I think having control over the sea would be a really cool power to have. Plus he can breath underwater! How useful is that!
This sounds like a great book, I hope you and your mum enjoy the next one just as much! 🙂

  2. My favourite god is Zeus. He’s the boss, he gets to live on Mount Olympus, throw thunder bolts and he can transform into animals. He is the god of the sky and we’re always told to reach for the sky or the sky’s the limit.. perhaps that’s because Zeus is so cool!
